Our External Wall Insulation System is one of the most durable tried and tested systems available. External wall Insulation or Outsulation refers to a unique product for insulating exterior walls. The technology involves a composite insulating panel adhesively or mechanically fixed, a base coat, reinforcing mesh and an outer finish coat of acrylic render.

The finish is available in many colours and varied textures, the finish can replicate the original finish of the house or create a new design to your own satisfaction. The finish coat will not fade, crack, chip or peel and comes with a 10 year guarantee. Acrylic surfaces can be washed when necessary giving an essentially maintenance free surface. With full NSAI accreditation, we offer the quality of product and service you would expect from one of the most well-established insulation system installers in Ireland.

What are the Main Benefits of External Wall Insulation?

External Wall Insulation uses the fabric of the building like a storage radiator. Because the heat can no longer escape through the outer layer of insulation, it is reflected back into the living areas, creating a constant warm home.

It has various advantages which include improving the airtightness of a home (i.e. elimination of unwanted draughts through the building fabric), as well as substantially increasing the thermal performance of a dwelling without reducing the floor area. With up to 35% heat lost through external walls, EWI can help reduce your heating bills by up to 40%.

What are Typical Costs?

Typical cost of external wall insulation for a 3 bed semi-detached house is €10,000 and there is a SEAI grant of up to €2,700 (terms and conditions apply).

With a variety of grants available from The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland to assist towards the cost of insulation for houses built prior to 2006, it is a good idea to take advantage of this benefit as soon as possible.

Process

  • One of our insulation surveyors will visit your property to complete a thorough survey in order to prepare an accurate specification for your property. The surveyor will also look at the suitability of your home for external wall insulation and discuss the various options and finishes available.
  • The surveyor will provide a detailed quote for carrying out the work as well as inform you of any grants that you may be entitled to.
  • A convenient time for the work to be carried out will be agreed with you.
  • The walls to be insulated and the surrounding area must be completely cleared of any fixings.
  • The specified type and size of insulation is mechanically and adhesively fixed to all external walls. This creates an insulation envelope that prevents heat loss and cold bridging.
  • An alkali-resistant open-weave fibre mesh is embedded onto the insulation board using a polymer-modified cement basecoat. This provides both impact resistance and tensile strength.
  • A coloured primer is applied to the basecoat when fully dry. (Drying takes approximately 24 hours.) This aids adhesion/ water resistance, and also improves the colour uniformity on the final finish.
  • A low maintenance coloured and textured acrylic render finish is then applied (troweled or sprayed). There is an extensive pallet of colours and textures to choose from. The final result is a durable low maintenance finish that will only need hosing down to clean every 3 to 5 years.
  • You can now enjoy a more comfortable and energy efficient home with a new fresh exterior!
